Researcher, Sustainable Healthy Cities Network

Kangkang (KK) Tong is a Postdoctoral Research Associate at Princeton University’s Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering. She is also a researcher in the Sustainable Healthy Cities Network.

Tong’s research is at the intersection of urban systems, climate change, and social equity. Her research investigates how urban systems contribute to deep-decarbonization and social equity under the ongoing energy transition. Her specific areas of focus are: 1) modeling urban energy use and carbon footprint at multiple-spatial scales; 2) identifying unique urban circular economy strategies for deep-decarbonization; 3) investigating the distribution of energy use and the benefits energy policy among socioeconomic groups in cities; and 4) analyzing the sociotechnical transitions of urban energy systems.

Tong has an interdisciplinary education background. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Sciences, a Master of Science degree in Ecology, and a Ph.D. degree in Science, Technology, and Environmental
