Measuring the Human Toll of Rising Temperatures: CGI Director Anu Ramaswami Leads New Study in Delhi and Chennai
CGI Director Anu Ramaswami, Sanjay Swani ’87 Professor of India Studies and Professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering and the High Meadows Environmental Institute (HMEI), is leading new research to quantify human exposure to extreme heat in Indian cities. Through wearable pendants and advanced sensor technologies, her team is gathering data in Delhi and Chennai, uncovering how socioeconomic conditions and urban infrastructure affect residents’ ability to cope with rising temperatures. This work will help inform climate action plans that promote equity and sustainability, guiding cities in mitigating the impacts of increasingly frequent heatwaves.
