Gyan Prakash receives 2020 Ramnath Goenka Award for 'Emergency Chronicles: Indira Gandhi and Democracy’s Turning Point'

Gyan Prakash, Dayton-Stockton Professor of History and a member of the M.S. Chadha Center for Global India's executive committee, received the 2020 Ramnath Goenka Award for Books (Non-Fiction) for his book "Emergency Chronicles: Indira Gandhi and Democracy’s Turning Point."

The award recognizes "courage and commitment and showcase the outstanding contributions of journalists from across the country.”

Prakash specializes in the history of modern India. His research and teaching focus on urban modernity, the colonial genealogies of modernity, and problems of postcolonial thought and politics.

He received his award on Jan. 20 at an event in New Delhi, India.
