CGI Co-Sponsors Princeton’s Annual Energy Conference, Hosting Anson Sando from IIT Madras Research Park
When undergraduate John Souder went to India this summer as part of the Princeton’s Startup Immersion Program in Bengaluru, a weekend trip to Chennai’s IIT Madras’ Research Park catalyzed new energy-related collaboration networks across Princeton and India. Indeed, all ten Princeton students who were part of the PSIP cohort were amazed by energy and climate technologies being incubated at the Research Park, presented to them by Mr. Anson Sando, Head of Energy Programs at IIT Madras Research Park.
John Souder and Sriya Kotta led the charge to invite Mr. Sando to Princeton to present his work at the 7th annual Princeton Energy Conference, co-sponsored by the M.S. Chadha Center for Global India.
The conference was a remarkable gathering of global energy leaders and innovators, organized entirely by students from the Princeton University Energy Association (PUEA), one of the largest undergraduate-run energy organizations in the US. Students bring industry and academic leaders across the globe to Princeton to engage in conversation on the current and future state of the global energy landscape.
The Center for Global India was pleased to collaborate with the PUEA to bring Mr. Sando to campus to talk about “Energy in India” at the Energy Conference. This year’s conference had a fantastic turnout. Over 120 students attended and joined in conversation with professors, startup founders, consultants, and policymakers at the forefront of energy innovation to explore how they can contribute to the transition toward a net-zero energy future. Conversation topics ranged from new engineering innovations, clean-tech startups, AI and energy, financing the energy transition, and notably, energy in India.
Mr. Sando presented an overview of Energy Programs at IIT Madras Research Park, India’s pioneering university-based research park fostering industry-academia collaboration and deep-tech innovation. His talk focused on the path forward for scaled development of energy infrastructure and the achievement of a net-zero energy transition in India, where the majority of this infrastructure is still being developed. His participation also marked a key moment for potential collaborations between Princeton and IIT Madras. Mr. Sando’s talk was exciting and well-received and generated deeper interest in Princeton-India collaborations.
