Dr. Bimal Patel will describe four large-scale urban design and planning projects in India, aimed at improving cities.

Dr. Bimal Patel is an eminent Indian architect-planner with over 35 years of professional, research, and teaching experience in architecture, urban design, and urban planning. He is the President of CEPT University and leads HCP Design Planning and Management Private Limited, a sixty-year-old architecture and urban planning firm. He also founded Environmental Planning Collaborative, a not-for-profit, planning research and advocacy organization. 
Some of his notable works are the Sabarmati Riverfront Development Project, Ahmedabad; Eastern Waterfront Development, Mumbai; Transformation of Central Vista, New Delhi; Shri Kashi Vishwanath Dham, Varanasi; New Campus for the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad; Aga Khan Academy, Hyderabad, and; the Restoration of Gandhi Ashram in Ahmedabad. 
Patel and his projects have been conferred with numerous awards including the Aga Khan Award for Architecture (1992), the Prime Minister’s National Award for Excellence in Urban Planning and Design (2002), and the Padma Shri (2019).
